This is how the Cayenne makes the Porsche experience even more fascinating, even more diverse. And yet remains what it has always been: a genuine sports car.
Five seats. Intoxicating power. The kind of performance only 70 years of sports car heritage can produce. In the Cayenne, any excuse to Sportscar Together is a great one.
The Porsche Cayenne combines exquisite design and impeccable prestige to offer consumers who are looking for a little edge with their SUV. In this growing segment of luxury SUVs, we also have the Lexus RX 350 and Lincoln Aviator. When it comes to design, the Porsche leads the pack with soft edges across the Cayenne’s front fascia, rounded headlights, and a large grill. Crossovers look a bit strange from the side. This is not the case with the Porsche Cayenne with its natural looking sloped roofline. But there is far more to compare than just design. Read on to learn how the Cayenne’s speed, features, and quality stack up to the competition.

With a luxurious interior, leading design, and a solid powertrain, the Porsche Cayenne feeds the Porsche enthusiast with morsels of authentic German engineering.
U.S. News gives the Porsche Cayenne an overall score of 8.4, compared to the Lexus RX 350’s score of 8.1. It beats the Lexus in both performance and interior.
The Lincoln Aviator is also ranked 8.1 out of 10 by U.S. News. In comparison to its competitors, the Cayenne offers powerful turbocharged engines and athletic handling. While it may have subpar cargo capacity, the Porsche makes up for it with comfortable seats and a luxurious cabin.
Design – Dynamic design language. Typically Porsche
The customary identifying features are there to be seen, including the strongly emphasized front panels, the long, downward sloping hood and with its power dome, and the characteristic three-piece air intakes, which are even larger and more dominant.
The front apron is new and powerfully styled – even when stationary, it alludes to the sheer strength of performance packed within. The LED main headlights have an optional LED matrix beam.
All models boast typical Cayenne strengths: spaciousness, great versatility and an array of carefully selected materials. Exactly what you desire, as there are also numerous personalization options.
Engines – More powerful, more dynamic and more efficient. The new generation of engines
The Cayenne generation of engines has been redeveloped completely from scratch and they now offer even greater power and torque. Combined with a further improvement in efficiency.
Let’s start with the first two new creations: the 250 kW (335 hp) turbocharged V6 engine in the Cayenne and the twin-turbo V6 engine in the Cayenne S, which produces 324 kW (434 hp). On both drive units, the turbocharger is positioned in between the cylinder banks. This reduces the distance that the exhaust stream has to travel to reach the respective turbo – delivering a more rapid response.
For efficiency, all engines also come with electrical system recuperation, thermal management and the auto start/stop function with coasting function.
While you don’t necessarily select an SUV for it’s speed, the Cayenne has proved that it’s possible to inject a sports utility vehicle with plenty of sports car features. The S trim boasts of a 2.9 liter twin turbo-charged V6 engine with 434 horsepower, complemented with a 406 pound-feet of torque.
So how fast does it really go? The Cayenne hits 0-60 in just 5.9 seconds. In comparison, the Lexus RX 350 takes a full 6.7 seconds to reach 0-60.
Space – Trunk capacity of up to 60.4 cu ft*
The rear seats, like the front seats, are designed to be either particularly comfortable or especially sporty and, therefore, also feature elevated side bolsters. Now even more flexible, they can be folded down in the ratio 40 : 20 : 40, offer 6.3 in of front/rear adjustment and boast 10 adjustment positions for the backrest angle (to 29 degrees). Depending on the model, the trunk has a resulting capacity of between 26.3 cu ft and a maximum of 60.4 cu ft.
What type of interior and design features does the Porsche Cayenne have and how do they match up to the competition? Well, here are the highlights:
Both the Porsche Cayenne and the Lincoln Aviator received an equal score from The Car Connection (TCC). So what sets the Porsche apart is performance. You can’t beat the performance of a Porsche. Along with that, the Cayenne has a superior interior with numerous custom options.
In comparison, the Aviator bigger and heavier (which means slower) and has a very average warranty.
If you’re looking for the complete package of speed, reliability, prestige, and design, then the Porsche Cayenne has no competitor.
*With the rear bench seat in the Cayenne and Cayenne S folded down; up to 59.3 cu ft in the Cayenne Turbo.
